Mourner’s “Still” represents one of the finest examples of atmospheric doom metal to emerge from the American underground in 2010. This Massachusetts trio crafted something genuinely haunting here six tracks of glacially-paced, melody-driven doom that draws equally from early Cathedral’s cathedral-sized riffs and the more introspective moments of Warning. The album’s 47-minute runtime feels perfectly calibrated, with each composition given room to breathe and develop its crushing momentum naturally.
