Here’s a true collector’s piece that doesn’t surface often Guy Fletcher’s self-titled debut from Philips Canada. Fletcher, best known to most as Dire Straits’ longtime keyboardist and Mark Knopfler’s right-hand man, released this solo effort during his earlier incarnation as a singer-songwriter in the folk-rock tradition. Before he became an integral part of one of Britain’s biggest bands, Fletcher was crafting his own melodic pop-rock compositions that showcase a more intimate, acoustic-leaning side that would later inform his contributions to Dire Straits’ sound. The album captures that early-to-mid 70s British folk-pop sensibility, with Fletcher’s warm vocals and thoughtful songwriting taking center stage.
