Here’s a pressing that doesn’t get nearly enough attention from Elvis collectors, despite being one of his strongest artistic statements of the 1970s. “Elvis Country” marked a deliberate return to his roots, with Elvis diving deep into country standards and lesser-known gems that clearly meant something personal to him. The album showcases his voice at a particularly rich and weathered point, tackling everything from Hank Williams (“I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry”) to contemporary Nashville writers.
