Here’s a fascinating piece of Canadian folk history that doesn’t surface in collections very often. Dave Chiasson’s “Danny Boy” represents the kind of authentic regional recording that serious folk collectors spend years hunting down. Chiasson was part of the rich Maritime folk tradition that flourished in the Atlantic provinces, and this Afton label release captures that distinctive East Coast sound with its blend of Celtic influences and homegrown Canadian storytelling. The Afton imprint, based out of the Maritimes, was known for documenting local artists who might otherwise have remained purely regional phenomena.
